Bringing mining technology closer to the educational communities of the Northern Cape<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

When a company enters a new country, it brings with it far more than technological solutions. It also brings stories, experiences and the possibility of inspiring new vocations. With that in mind, Ra\u00fal Santana, CEO of Torsa, and Gabino de Diego, Business Development, travelled to South Africa together with our local colleagues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their destination was Kuruman, in the heart of the Northern Cape, to visit the Leap Math and Science School<\/mark><\/a><\/em>, an educational centre that works to create real opportunities for young people in communities across the Northern Cape, a province where mining forms part of the economic landscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This visit was not a formal gesture. It was a human, open and honest encounter, guided by a question we consider essential at Torsa:
How can we add value to the communities where we operate?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Leap Math and Science School: an inspiring learning environment<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Leap Math and Science School is an educational project that seeks to broaden horizons for talented young people by offering solid training in mathematics, science and critical thinking. Its mission is clear: to open doors that did not exist before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Kuruman, a region where mining anchors much of the local economy, many students grow up seeing the sector primarily through operational roles. Few realise how deeply technology, innovation, and digital systems shape modern mining.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This visit aimed to broaden that understanding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Showing that technology is also part of mining<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Throughout the day, Ra\u00fal and the Torsa team introduced students to a new side of the mining sector- one where AI, advanced risk-detection systems, and monitoring technologies contribute to safety, efficiency, and worker wellbeing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For many learners, this was their first moment of seeing their own interests, curiosity, logic, and a passion for science: reflected in the future of mining, not just its past.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here, the LEAP Institute\u2019s role as a connector was clear: by bringing together industry partners and schools, it helps create pathways where young people can imagine themselves in future-focused roles within industries that shape their communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The story of Torsa: a relatable example for young people<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The second purpose of the visit was to share the human story behind Torsa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ra\u00fal spoke about the company\u2019s humble beginnings, the challenges faced, and the perseverance that grew Torsa into a global technology partner for major mining companies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This message was simple:\nWhere you start does not determine where you can go.<\/strong>\nThe team emphasised that opportunities today are increasingly accessible through learning, commitment, and the digital resources available to all young people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For many students, hearing this from the source was inspiring and tangible, not a slogan, but a real example.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/div>\n\n\n\n

A commitment that continues<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Torsa\u2019s visit to Kuruman is part of a long-term commitment to South African communities, echoing its work in Peru and other countries where it operates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through the support and facilitation of the LEAP Institute, this visit marks the beginning of a deeper relationship, with the intention to remain present, collaborate meaningfully, and help nurture spaces where real opportunities can grow for LEAP School students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Technology, community and the future<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The visit to the LEAP Math and Science School reaffirmed a shared belief: education is the foundation of meaningful change. When companies, educators, and community connectors like the LEAP Institute come together, they create an environment where young people can see themselves as future innovators and leaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Torsa will continue building that path, in South Africa and beyond, guided by the conviction that technology only matters when it improves people\u2019s lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
