BHP Billiton Awards Antamina (Peru) for the Implementation of Torsa’s Vibration Monitor

The world’s largest mining company, BHP Billiton, has recognized the technology developed by the Malaga-based company TORSA. Specifically, the award was granted for the development of an innovative real-time vibration monitoring device for heavy equipment operators. The system is currently implemented at Antamina (Peru), one of the largest mines in the world.

The Torsa Vibration Monitor won the 2020 People’s Choice Award, with the Anglo-Australian company acknowledging its value as a health and safety innovation. The award also highlights its significant contribution to creating a safer and healthier work environment.

Thanks to this technology, the Malaga-based firm has achieved an 80% reduction in work-related absences. The system remotely and in real time detects and evaluates the vibration levels to which mine vehicle operators are exposed. This helps prevent occupational hazards, drastically reducing the number of injuries associated with daily operations.

TORSA CLOUD

The Torsa Vibration Monitor allows for detailed analysis of human exposure to vibration. Moreover, it is capable of issuing immediate alerts when vibration levels exceed internationally established safety thresholds. Vibration data from the trucks is collected via a sensor cushion installed in the operator’s seat. This information is transmitted in real time to a multifunction communications unit, and from there to a cloud server that centralizes all data. Through the .torsacloud business intelligence platform, the system analyzes all the big data and presents it to the mine’s occupational safety personnel.
